Michelakis, D.D.S.
Dr. Anthony (Tony) Michelakis is a 1990 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Dentistry. After practicing for 7 years in Warren, Ohio, Dr. Michelakis opened a practice on Oak Island, NC. Tony and his wife Laura, a registered dental hygienist, have two daughters, Lilly and Carly. Dr. Michelakis and his family love working and living in Brunswick County. From day one they felt welcomed into the community with open arms. “I thank God every day for the opportunity to live and work in such a wonderful community,” Dr. Michelakis said.
Dr. Michelakis enjoys all phases of dentistry, especially implants, root canal therapy, and crown and bridge work. “We proudly deliver all phases of dentistry without patients having to leave Brunswick County.”
Dr. Michelakis takes continuing education classes regularly. In 2008 he trained under top implant specialists in Raleigh, including Dr. David Simpson, long time chair of the Periodontal Department at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He attended over 215 hours of lecture and hand-on classes over a 10-month period to become qualified in the placement and restoration of dental implants. Dental implants change lives! “We now have the capability to help people who thought they never could chew food properly again. We can place the titanium implant, and in a few short weeks restore the implant with a porcelain crown giving the patient a beautiful, functional long lasting restoration.” These restorations include single crowns, bridges and implant supported over-dent. He also enjoys CEREC dentistry. CEREC uses a CAD-system to produce quality, long lasting porcelain crowns and fillings in about an hour. CEREC eliminates the need for temporary crowns that can sometimes be problematic. The top CEREC instructors in the country have trained Dr. Michelakis.
