Dr. Darren Harrington
Dr. Harrington is a native of Clinton, North Carolina. He attended UNC-Chapel Hill, where he was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and graduated with distinction in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. Dr. Harrington continued his education at West Virginia University where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree with honors in 2002.
After graduation from dental school, Dr. Harrington was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy. During his distinguished Naval career, he completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, FL. Upon completion of his residency, he reported to Camp Lejeune, NC to provide dental services for the Fleet Marine Forces. In 2004, Dr. Harrington deployed to the Middle East to provide routine and emergency services to military personnel in direct support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Dr. Harrington joined Coastal Cosmetic Family Dentistry in September of 2006. He enjoys helping patients with all aspects of general dentistry, especially cosmetic dentistry and dental implants. He is committed to constant and never-ending improvement. He stays abreast of current dental techniques and technology through continuing education as well as by involvement in multiple dental organizations. Dr. Harrington is a member of the American Dental Association, The Academy of General Dentistry, The North Carolina Dental Society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor society, American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, Dental Organization of Conscious Sedation, and is a Fellow in the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.
Dr. Harrington regularly attends cutting edge continuing dental education at week-long courses at the Kois Institute of Seattle, WA that cover the latest advances in esthetics, implants, and restorative dentistry. Dr Harrington is a graduate of the Kois Center having successfully completed hundreds of hours of lecture and hands on continuing education led by John Kois, a renowned doctor of Periodontal Prosthodontics.
Dr. Harrington strives to set an example as a community healthcare stakeholder in Brunswick County by hosting Dentistry From the Heart and Freedom Day for the underserved and veterans. Dr Harrington is also on the advisory board for the dental assisting program at Brunswick Community College.
Dr. Harrington’s wife Ashley, a Physical Therapist, owns Coastal Therapy Services in Southport, NC where she specializes in pelvic floor and incontinence therapy. Dr. Harrington and Ashley have two daughters, Ellie and Kate. When he’s not helping his patients, he enjoys an active lifestyle including running, fishing, boating and spending time with his family.
